Although his portraits are more iconic and were more successful, Rossiter also dabbled in landscape and genre painting. According to one of Julia Billings' diaries, he receieved third prize for 'Venice' at a Paris exhibition in 1855. He was married to Julia's sister, Anna, and much of the family correspondence involves his affairs.
