One of the best examples of works originating from the studio of the Master of the Polyptych from Gościszowice. The slender figure of the Virgin Mary kneeling at the lectern, is turned towards Archangel Gabriel making the Announcement. The words are embodied in the miniature dove of the Holy Ghost placed above the Virgin’s head. The accompanying, precisely rendered objects are also significant: a scarlet canopy with a green curtain as a symbol of the original Temple of the Embodied God – Jesus, and a distant mountainous landscape seen outside the window, with a walled castle and church, and the Enclosed Garden (Hortus conclusus), symbols of Mary’s virginity. The Saints depicted on the obverse are the popular patrons helping in different cases of need.
