Varaha is the third avatara (incarnation) of Vishnu. Vishnu assumed this form to rescue Bhu-devi (earth goddess) from the clutches of the demon, had carried her to the nether world. His lower right hand is in abhaya-mudra and in his other hands he is holding a club, conch and a disc. Bhu-devi is supported on his elbow. On the right side of the lotus base stands goddess Lakshmi holding a lotus stalk, and on the left stands Garuda, leaning towards the god.
