This blueish-white glazed vase on an openwork stand features applied relief decorations of floral sprays and cranes separated by heart-shaped motifs in beadwork technique. Known as the Qingbai ware in China, this piece was made in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi, during the first half of the fourteenth century, when monochrome Qingbai ware was replaced by the new blue-and-white porcelain. Vases of this kind are also known as the Fonthill-type porcelain, which are among the earliest Chinese export porcelain documented in Europe and were valued among the aristocracy of the time.
