"Verpa bohemica: Morels, True or false?
Among the Pezizales are the Morels, both True and False; since the True are choice edibles and the False can kill, it matters to tell them apart. Scan a cross section; in the True, head and stem are a continuous hollow tube; in the False, the head is attached to a semi-solid or many-chambered stalk over which it billows in a frenzy of tangled entrails or extruded brains.
Then, there are the inbetweeners; right, mad-mopped Verpa bohemica; some experts call it "True", some say "False", all say unpredictable - edible but capable of afflicting even long-term aficionados (especially those who pig out too often) with muscular incoordination, confusion, and dismay."
