The Ericophone was born from the desire to make a one-piece telephone. They might not look alike at all, but in terms of their technical specifications, the Ericophone and the T65 are identical. The phone’s rotary dial is hidden on the underside of its base, which also features a red-button hook contact. Because of the position of this hook contact, users would sometimes inadvertently hang up the phone when they wanted to put the device down while making a call. The Ericophone was developed in the 1960s, but wasn’t brought to market in the Netherlands until 1978. The then State Secretary for Transport, Public Works and Water Management only allowed the T65 model to be used. When the Ericophone was finally introduced, it did not sell very well. The 1981 Unifoon and Diavox models turned out to be a lot more popular with Dutch consumers.
