Gertrud Staats was the most recognized woman painter in Wrocław at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. She studied with Adolf Dressler, the most important Silesian landscape painter. She also painted mainly landscapes. She liked working outdoors and traveled often until World War I. Later, financial and health problems made journeys impossible. Her painting style developed from romantic realism through impressionism to moderate expressionism. The presented picture shows an intermediate period of her work, where realistically treated architecture and animals meet Impressionist nature.
