View of Antwerp

This view shows the city at the start of the Eighty Years' War. In the foreground, to the southwest, is the pentagonal citadel topped by five bastions that give it a characteristic star-shaped plan. This fortress is linked to the city through an axis that, following the Laansport, leads to the Grote Mark, the Great Square, the center of both political and commercial municipal life.
