In September 1985, CERN was honoured by the visit of Her Majesty Queen Beatrix and His Royal Highness Prince Claus of the Netherlands. Amongst the highlights of their tour was a look at the Antiproton Accumulator incorporating the invention which won their compatriot, Simon van der Meer, together with the italian professor Carlo Rubbia, the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1984.
