The journey that Chopin made to London with Pleyel (the owner of a piano manufactory and a concert hall in Paris, also a music publisher) o ered an opportunity to take care of various business, but also to spend time in fashionable places. Their guide to the city was the poet Stanisław Egbert Koźmian, living in London at that time, who in his letters recalled: ‘We’re making merry, having fun, squandering money by the handful’.
