The Kroll Winter Garden, built in Wrocław in 1837, has not survived to our times. It was a place of entertainment, in which concerts, balls, Christmas fairs and other events were organised. Its image is preserved in a curious Biedermeier artefact, namely a three-dimensional box reproduction, called a diorama. Dioramas were miniature boxes ‘to look into‘, made of natural materials such as paper, glass and moss, and were popular travel souvenirs. This particular example is an amazingly realistic reproduction of the building in question.
