Photograph of (from left) Walther von Hallwyl, Hans von Hallwyl and Hedwig von Hallwyl, née Styx. Walther purchased a manor house at Burgberg bei Überlingen in Germany near the border to Swizerland for his brother and sister-in-law. Hans and Hedwig had fled Switzerland in the 1870’s to escape multiple debtor’s and an irate wife. His debts were eventually payed by Hans’ father-in-law, provided that he divorced his wife.
