The author, publisher and printer Zacharias Bartsch dedicated this work to the members of the Graz Diet, recommending himself as a mould carver and book printer while also “offering his subservient, obedient, assiduous and willing services”. In the Preface, he set out a history from the Creation, through Adam and Eve, the ancient Roman emperors and Holy Roman Emperors up to the “young noble Styrians” of his own age. The armorial bearings of the Principality of Styria are arranged in descending order according to provinces, clergy, higher and lower aristocracy and municipal coats of arms (many of which are still in use today).
The copy was printed from newly cut printing blocks and carefully coloured. The ex libris notices on the title page refer to the personal library of Archduke Ferdinand, later Ferdinand II (1578 – 1637), Holy Roman Emperor.
