Warrior's Helmet

3rd-2nd centuries BC

Museo Juan Cabré

Museo Juan Cabré
Calaceite, Spain

One-piece iron helmet. It has a uniform thickness and is hemispherical in shape, with a flat, semicircular rear visor or neck protector at the back with attachment holes. On top of the helmet is a sphere formed from the same piece of metal, as is commonly found on helmets from the peninsula. It has no metal cheek guards: it is thought the Iberians removed these as they got in the way during combat. The inside of the helmet is engraved with a falcata sword handle. It is a Montefortino helmet (Type B), according to H. Russell Robinson.
