Allied with groups like the Black Panthers, Young Lords, and others, White Lightning concentrated on organizing white working-class communities in the borough. Besides organizing protests, tenant defense, and distributing their newspaper, the group also hosted free park jams and theater performances to raise the consciousness of the community, foreshadowing the similar activities that would become the core of hip hop.
