This hilt was made of wood and wrapped with white ray skin. It is applied with black lacquer on the ground of the white rough skin. The black ground emphasizes the white granular pattern which is the aesthetic part of the hilt. Additionally, the rough skin plays a role of slip-stop.
The two gold ornament pieces represent the alternate crest of the Tachibana family ‘Gyoyo’.
