In 1914 the Chicago White Sox and New York Giants visited Australia for an exhibition tour of baseball. The travelling party, consisting of 65 people (wives, officials and journalists included) visited Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne where American residents and locals alike celebrated the opportunity to watch the teams play.
In Sydney, matches between the American teams and NSW were staged at the Sydney Cricket Ground. This image was taken at the White Sox v NSW match, where the locals demonstrated an intimate knowledge of the requirements of the game but were our classed in skill. The match ran five innings.
