As the female Buddha of long life, acknowledged as one of the “Three Buddhas of Longevity” in Tibetan Buddhism, White Tara is believed to be born out of the compassionate tears from Avalokitesvara's left eye. She is also known as the “Tara of Seven Eyes” given the fact that she has seven eyes – in addition to the usual two, she has a third eye on her forehead and one on each of her hands and feet. The White Tara in this painting has pure white skin, clad in elaborately decorated garments and adorned with beautiful necklaces, various gold and jewel ornaments, along with a flower coronet, exuding a sense of composure and compassion.
