In 1892, Władysław Podkowiński (1856-1895) made the acquaintance of Feliks Jasieński (1861-1929), who invited him to spend the summer in the vicinity of Sandomierz, in Sobótka near Bidziny at an estate belonging to the family of the art collector. There the artist created many landscapes in which he demonstrated a new way (new for him) of perceiving nature. Wilczyce (Field of Clover) is an expansive view whose composition is based on the horizontal juxtaposition of successive fields. These are set off by colourful bands of fields, forest, shady village buildings, and the sky. The colour scheme is kept cool. The dominant colour elements is a wedge of pink separating the areas of green and blue. The simplicity of form and rejection of detail give the painting and synthetic, almost abstract character.
