Wolfgang Amadé Mozart was portrayed by his brother-in-law Joseph Lange. For decades the painting was considered unfinished, and it was even said that Mozart died before it could be completed. Investigations revealed that the unfinished parts were later additions, so the original portrait was a miniature. Nevertheless, the portrait is considered one of the most famous of the composer and shows him in a domestic setting, probably focused on his work.
