Written by Luis Palés Matos (1898-1959), one of the great Puerto Rican poets who had a successful career as a writer of Afro-Antillean poetry. He modified Modernist language with his own expressions, often musical, sometimes of African origin. In the poem “Entrance to time in three voices”, Palés Matos presents the figure of Filí-Melé, as a woman he wants to attain, but is also related to the twin themes of temporality and death. She has been associated by different literary critics to a lover of the past, a mythological diety, and even elusive poetry itself.
Consuelo Gotay is a Puerto Rican printmaker, typographer and designer, whose limited edition artist books enhance the literary expression of Caribbean poets she works on. Her artistic production demonstrates her command over print art forms such as the silkscreen, the linoleum and the woodcut. Her depictions of the Caribbean landscape represent the native vegetation with elegant, sinuous lines.
