The girl in the picture is Li Lianjiao, a student at Gong Yuan Elementary School in Tainan, where Hsu taught at the time. Because she was of mixed race and had beautiful, healthy skin, Hsu took many outstanding photos of the girl, capturing her vivid natural expressions. Although she also wears gloves in another photo, Pupil of the Eye, both she and the gloves are the subjects of this 1966 work. Hsu focused on Li Lianjiao's highly expressive eyes; contrasting sharply with the overall dark tones, the white gloves and the bright, clear light in her gaze create a mysterious charm. Woman with White Gloves?won a silver medal at the 2nd Taiwan Provincial Photography Exhibition and is part of the National Museum of Fine Art and the Kaohsiung Municipal Fine Art Museum collections. The photo was taken with a Minolta SRT-100 with a 135mm lens, using Kodak Plus-X film.
