In his works, Minne depicts a person's inner conflict and anxiety, which is reflected in its physical appearance. Minne was inspired by Auguste Rodin (1840–1917) to focus on the depiction of melancholy and introspection in sculptures. The plastic surface finish is also reminiscent of the artistic techniques of the French sculptor Rodin, which Minne learned while studying sculpture in Paris. In 1913, when this bronze "Worker" was created, Minne moved away from symbolism and chose depictions of workers as expressing social change in society as the main theme of his work. His realistic portrayal, the strong, tense body of the port loader shows new aesthetic spectrum.
