This painting shows four workers dragging a red-hot workpiece with their tongs. All of the workers are wearing blue pants and sandals with blue tops and tan soles. The worker on the right is wearing a black hat and has no shirt. He also appears to have dark facial hair. He is facing away from the workpiece, holding his tongs with his right hand while his left hand hangs at his side. The next man (on the left) is facing the workpiece and appears to be using both hands. This man has short red hair and is also shirtless. The next man over has thinning dark hair and a mustache. He is turned to the side, using both hands to grip the tongs. He is shirtless as well. The furthest man over, all that can be seen is his back, covered by a blue shirt, because he is mainly hidden by the other men.
On the far left two men are in the shadows, taking a break. The one in front is in blue, sitting down, and appears to have something in his hands. In front of him on the floor is a pitcher and a white towel. Behind him is another man in a tan shirt and tan hat, standing up. On the far right a man without a shirt who has brown hair, blue pants, and black shoes is using a motion where whatever is at the end of his long handle is being pushed across the floor. His right hand is wrapped around the handle while his left is on the top end of it (he may be sweeping).
In the background on the left, coming around the corner, are at least two more men and judging from their leaned-over stance, they are also pulling a workpiece. Both are wearing blue jumpsuits, the man on the right has a blue hat while the man on the left has brown hair. Behind them is another man in blue with grey hair. Two large pipes run along the top of the painting and a large machine is in the right background. The rest of the background is obscured by smoke or steam.
