Melvin Way (South Carolina) worked as a musician in Brooklyn before developing schizophrenia in his 20's. He continued to create artworks while moving between mental institutions, halfway houses, and rehab centers. Way carries his drawings with him for days, weeks, years, working when time allows. He draws on found pieces of paper with ballpoint pen, and wrapping his work in Scotch tape to preserve them. The drawings often look like complicated scientific diagrams and chemical compounds but Way offers no meaning behind them.
