Lt. Calvin Spann, a P-51 "Mustang" pilot, flew 26 missions as a Tuskegee Airmen with the 332nd Fighter Group, 100th Fighter Squadron during World War II. While flying a B-17 escort mission to Berlin on March 24, 1945, Lt. Spann and his squadron commander, Capt. Roscoe Brown, engaged a flight of German Me-262 fighter jets. During the engagement, Capt. Brown downed one of the advanced German jets over Berlin, one of three downed by Tuskegee Airmen on this historic mission. The Museum is proud to display Lt. Spann's uniform and combat medals earned while serving in the first U.S. African American Fighter Group, the Tuskegee Airmen.
