During the later part of the 19th century new religions emergend among diferent Native American groups. The most famous examples are the Ghost Dance and the Native American Church. Later named is also called Peyotism and blends Native American and Christian beliefs. Rituals and paraphernalia differ between the diferent Native groups, this fan is from the Kiowa on the Southern Plains and usually used together with a rattle. This fan came as part of an exchange with the Denver Art Museum and dates back to the 1930´s.
