Painted in 1860, this is a copy of another landscape of the same name by Carlos de Haes, under whose direction Arruti had begun his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid the year before. His donation to the Provincial Government served to demonstrate his skills and win him a scholarship to pursue further studies. He went on to become one of the most faithful followers of the realist landscape painting movement in the Basque Country.
Despite its complete lack of originality, the work includes all the fundamental elements that guided most of Arruti's work, such as a quest for topographical accuracy and a liking for panoramas lit by twilight, containing human or animal figures.
