Yashoda is milking a cow when the infant Krishna comes over to demand his share of the milk. Raja Ravi Varma painted several paintings of the infant Krishna and Yashoda. In this painting, the cow, although is in the background, is a prominent feature. The earliest reference to this painting is in a book by S. N. Joshi "Half-Tone Reprints of the Renowned Pictures of the Late Raja Ravi Varma" printed in 1911 where this painting bears the title "Milching a Cow". A chromolithograph of from this painting was printed at the Ravi Varma Press with the title "Yashoda Krishna"
