One of the three books on politics and law written by Jeong Yak-yong (1762-1836), this book deals with ultimate reform measures for the state system of Joseon. The reform measures discussed in this book fell into disarray, however, largely because he tried to limit his ideas to the system of the traditional Six Offices provided in the Book of Rites. In this Chinese book, the foundation of a state system was based on the principles of "the construction of the capital by skilled builders" and "the well-field system", but the scholar was unable to complete his reform plan even though he devoted about twenty years to it largely because he could not describe the plan in a systematic manner using the Six Ministry tradition alone. While it remains an unfinished work, Gyeongseyupyo is generally regarded as the most important text for understanding the ideal government system he hoped to establish.
