Yo-Yo Ma was born in 1955, in Paris. He is known as a Grammy award winning, Asian American cellist. He began studying music at the age of four and moved to New York City with his family at the age of seven. He graduated both Juilliard School and Harvard University for his impeccable music skills. He also received many accolades throughout his career, including the National Medal of Honor (2001), and the Presidential Medal of Freedom (2011). Ma’s popularity also extended into the TV industry. He appeared as an animated character on the hit show, “The Simpsons” and the children’s television show “Arthur.” One notable appearance was on the critically acclaimed children’s program, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, in 1985. While appearing on the program, Ma became friends with the host Fred Rogers, who gave him advice on how to handle media attention and help spread positive Asian American representation within the TV industry.
