This image is one of a series documenting the postcard writing that I have been doing with Reclaim Our Vote, a campaign to empower voters of color in states experiencing high degrees of voter suppression. I chose to photograph each packet of postcards before mailing them out to tell part of the story of the political situation in the USA after the election of 2016. Reclaim Our Vote uses handwritten cards sent by the USPS to reach rural voters and asks volunteers to make them stand out from impersonal mail by highlighting them with bright colors. Each postcard represents a person who may be marginalized by the current democratic process and this picture places the cards in a void of space. After making the photograph I posted it on social media as a call to action inviting my friends and family to join me in my daily work to elect leaders who will fight for social justice and human rights.
