Minet Library is home to Lambeth Archives and is the borough's record office and local history library. The building was donated by the local landowner, historian and philanthropist William Linet. It was originally intended to serve as a hall for estate tenants but was turned into a library in memory of Minet's wife who died before the hall was completed. Designed by George Hubbard, the library was completed and opened in 1890.
