The surface of the lyre inlaid with 13 White jade inlays is made of paulownia wood and the bottom is catalpa wood.The body of it is covered with chestnut colour paint.Between the paint and the wooden body is a layer of gelatinum cornus cervis with tile ash.There are some large yellow patches all over the body with faint patterns liking ripple of water.The lyre has 13 circular White jade inlays and some specific parts like Yueshan, Chenglu, Longyin and Jiaowei are also inlaid with white jade. Zui Yu’s tuning column is made by hsiuyen jade.In side of Zui Yu’s longchi(one of lyre’s resonance boxes),on the left is inscribed with the incised carving running script which means this lyre was produced in the seventh day of the first lunar month in the spring of 984 A.D. On the middle part of the dorsal neck has two incised carving running script words which is exactly its name Zui Yu. On the right side of it is a incised carving regular script says its age and the same form words on the left means it belongs to Xueqin Xian Museum.
