Help Avoid Shrines
U.S.-MADE
MAPS GUIDE ALLIED FLIERS
NEW YORK, March 16 --(AP)-- When Allied bomber crews start on destructive missions over Axis-held territory they carry with them treasure maps made in
the United States.
Devised by some of this nation's foremost historians, geographers and art authorities, these treasure maps show locations of art treasures, shrines and landmarks with a view to preventing their destruction.
President Raymond E. Fosdick of the Rockefeller Foundation reported that maps are being prepared at the Frick Art Reference Library in New York, under the direction of the Commission for Protection and Salvage of Artistic Monuments. The latter group was appointed by the state Department last August.
