“Zha” and the Canal Culture 1

There are water barriers in the middle of the two bridges at the end of the main river of Wuzhen. The water barrier was called “Zha” in Chinese which was functioned as a water gate. It opened at 4 o 'clock in the morning and was closed at 12 o 'clock at midnight to defend water bandits.
