Yaozhou kiln gourd-shaped ewer 2 of 2

The ewer is gourd shaped, small at the top, larger at the base, and has a small neck. The lower portion is decorated with a flower design, and the ewer has a round foot. The clay is light gray, and the glaze is celadon. Yaozhou ware is usually made of a clay that turns light gray when it is fired and is typically covered in a translucent green glaze. The effect is clean and refined, suggesting that a fine layer of slip was applied. This occurs due to a chemical reaction between the clay and the glaze that occurs during firing. The firing process prevents the glaze from fading. This effect is seen in Linru ware in Henan and in Jun ware, and is caused as a result of the components in the crucible.
