On the river throughout the year, there is martial arts performance performed by the warriors wearing warriors’ suit. When performing, the warriors with machetes, sword, or gun fight stormily and accompanied by gong and drum, that is Wuzhen’s traditional folk program, martial arts performance. Martial arts performance is known as boxing boat. It is popular in Tai Hu Lake in Song Dynasty. The water of Wuzhen was very extensive and there were many robbers in this area. The official had no effective measures to control the robbers to ensure the local people a peaceful life, so the fishermen and boatmen prepared machetes, employed warriors, practiced martial art publicly to build up their bodies and repel the robbers. Gradually, the martial arts performance boat developed. Today, the martial arts performance boat has no utility of repelling robbers, but practicing martial arts on the boat as a traditional activity. The fifth-generation martial arts performance belongs to Shaolin Kongfu. It has more than fifty kinds of punches, such as Shaolin Punch, Shaolin Stick Stool Punch, etc. Masters do the martial performance here to show Kongfu sprit to tourist in Wuzhen.
