For the first time, the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna will present an exhibition on the important Baroque painter Rembrandt. For the first time, the legendary artist Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn and his works will be presented from the perspective of his eminent pupil Samuel van Hoogstraten, who achieved great success at the Habsburg court. Rembrandt’s oeuvre, his themes, his sophisticated compositions and painting techniques were adapted and further developed by Hoogstraten. The spotlight is on the powerful effect of colour and the astonishing illusionist techniques with which Rembrandt and Hoogstraten were able to fascinate then and now.
