Brooklyn Children’s Museum is the first museum expressly for children. Founded in 1899, it re-imagined the museum as a lively space where children learn by playing. The institution’s collection has championed this vision since day one.
Today, the collection features about 30,000 objects spanning prehistory to the contemporary era. Through hands-on exploration of cultural works, live animals, and natural history specimens, children discover the stories of people and the environment. This dynamic mix leads the museum's mission-driven work of empowering children to understand and respect themselves, others, and the world around them.
