Centennial Hall

The Centennial Hall was opened in 1913 on the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Leipzig and the triumph of the anti-French coalition over Napoleon Bonaparte's troops. Construction of the monumental structure began in June 1911 and took 14 months. The pretext for starting the project was the Centenary Exhibition organized in Breslau at that time. Max Berg, the city architect, presented a plan for the construction of an exhibition complex, the centerpiece of which was a huge hall. He wanted to use reinforced concrete technology, which had not been used on such a large scale before. The Centennial Hall was built on the site of a former horse racing track.

The Centennial Hall in Wrocław was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2006 during the 30th session of the World Heritage Committee in Vilnius (Dec. 30 COM 8B.47). This was decided by the genius of the creator of the project and by the fact that the Centennial Hall is a manifestation of the culture of its epoch and, consequently, a definite and distinct presence in the history of humanity.
