The Trindade Collection, donated to Fundação Oriente by the Trindade Trust in 2004, comprises 146 works by the renowned Goan painters António Xavier Trindade (1870-1935) and that of his daughter, Ângela Trindade (1909-1980). The work of António Xavier Trindade, influenced by his artist training and the traditions of European Naturalism, consists mainly of portraits, landscapes and genre painting, mainly in oil and watercolour. Ângela Trindade, his daughter and artistic descendant, was one of the first women in India to adopt painting as a profession. A versatile artist, she explored different techniques and genres, becoming famous for her paintings of Christian themes in an Indian style. The two artists' remarkable work spans over a century of intense political and social transformations in the Indian subcontinent and are representative of the artistic influences and movements present in 20th century Indian arts. Since 2012, the Trindade Collection has been permanently displayed at the Delegation of Fundação Oriente in India, constituting one of the central points of its local engagement and contribution to the cultural life of Goa.
