The Korea National Arboretum, located in Gwangneung Forest, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and a forest protected in the last five hundred years, is a treasure trove of forest ecosystems and one of the prominent research institutes for forest species in Korea. The Arboretum investigates, collects, classifies, and conserves forest species in Korea, preserves and restores rare endemic plants, develops technologies for exploration and use of domestic and foreign useful plant resources, creates and manages exhibition gardens. We carry out our missions such as providing forest environment education and preserve forest cultural artifacts.
The KNA, which has continued the tradition of research on forest species that began in the 1920s, is contributing to securing the sovereignty of forest organisms and preserving biodiversity in Korea. In addition, based on the research results, we publish illustrated books and promotional materials so that students and citizens studying forest biology can more easily learn about the names and ecology of trees, grass, insects, mushrooms, birds living in the forest.
