Liljestrand Foundation

Honolulu, United States

The Liljestrand Foundation was created by the Liljestrand family in 2007 to preserve Liljestrand House, the tropical modern masterpiece designed by Vladimir Ossipoff, and to make that preservation beneficial to the community.

Liljestrand House was built in 1952 by Howard and Betty Liljestrand and is recognized as an outstanding example of architect Vladimir Ossipoff’s work and mid-twentieth century modern architecture. Everything in the house is much as it was when the Liljestrands lived there. The family remained lifelong friends with Ossipoff and every piece of furniture and art was selected or approved by the architect. Throughout the years, no changes were made without consulting Ossipoff. Additionally, every drawing, photo, receipt and communication related to the building of the house is preserved in the archive.

Liljestrand House is open to the public for scheduled tours and programs.
