The Museum, which is part of the Museum System of the University of Palermo, has important collections of engines, mechanisms and one of the five remaining aircraft FIAT G.59. For the importance of its heritage it has been awarded, the first in Italy, Mechanical Engineering Heritage Collection by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. The oldest pieces date from the half of the nineteenth century and several pieces have been employed for research and didactic purpose. Nowadays, outdated by the new technologies, they still represent an invaluable heritage describing the development of machines in various fields of use, from stationary to aircraft engines. The main activities of the Museum focus on preservation, enhancement as well as public enjoyment of its heritage. To this purpose, the Museum carries out researches, restoration projects in its fully equipped workshop, temporary exhibits, international workshops and educational activities, as part of the development policy promoted by the University of Palermo.
