The Vale do Paraíba Anthropology Museum - MAV is a regional museum that aims to study and disseminate the ways of living, doing and knowing the Valeparaibano man. And in its trajectory, by identifying and promoting the recognition of regional culture, it formed an expressive collection with pieces that tell about our regional culture.
The constitution of this museum represents a rupture in the history of museums in Brazil, conceived by museologist Waldisa Rússio Guarnieri, the institution does not fit into the classic molds of historical and pedagogical museums, still in vogue during the 80s of the last century, the idea of bringing everyday life and the common man to the museum highlights this institution. The MAV project was linked to the avant-garde thinking of the New Museology, where the history of the collective and social groups had the same importance as the stories of national heroes and traditional families.
