The Medeiros e Almeida Museum is one of the most important Portuguese private decorative arts housing, among others, one of the country’s most significant collections of antique watches and clocks and a relevant collection of Chinese ceramics.
The museum displays two thousand objects in 27 rooms divided into two distinct areas: the residence area and a purpose-built museum on the site of the former garden. The house was kept as much as possible as it was during the collector’s lifetime, while the new wing recreates European interiors, namely French. The museum’s most striking quality lies in how different decorative elements have been harmoniously blended, from Chinese ceramics to Portuguese and French furniture, Dutch and Flemish paintings, watches and jewellery to textiles, silversmith, and fans, to mention some of the collections.
