The Yoga Institute is one of the oldest organised yoga centres in the world established in 1918.
Dr. Hansaji Yogendra is currently the Director of The Yoga Institute, Mumbai, the world’s oldest organised Yoga center. She is also the President of International Board of Yoga and Senior Vice President Indian Yoga Association (IYA). She is the leading face of householder Yoga and has conducted over 1,00,000 theoretical and practical sessions of Yoga till date. She has authored and co-authored over 50 books of which Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, How to Reverse Heart Disease, Pregnancy, Parenthood are quite popular. Social Service Initiatives for welfare of society under her leadership has touched upon thousands of lives for the better.
The Yoga Institute’s significant contributions in areas like Yoga education, research, experiential learning, standardisation of Yoga practices have been widely recognized.
Recognising and honouring the philanthropic work done under Dr. Hansaji Yogendra’s guidance, The Yoga Institute won the prestigious Prime Minister’s award for spreading the yoga goodness to all in June 2018.
The Institute conducts various health care, rehabilitation programs and yoga educational programmes for underprivileged, special needs children (Physically and Mentally Challenged), marginalized communities especially women and children suffering from exploitation, abuse, malnutrition, HIV, AIDS, Juvenile programs, rehabilitation of youth and drug abusers, Women Rescue Programmes, Orphanages, bettering living of the slum inhabitants of Mumbai, clean beach transformation drive as well as wellness camps for various Government and Non- Government departments like employees of the Mantralaya, the Excise department, the University of Mumbai, Commissioner of Customs, Mumbai Police, Western Railways, Commando force to name a few social service initiatives.
