Evolving since the mid 80s from the musical legacy of the Trent House Soul Bar, World Headquarters Club was finally established in Newcastle in 1993. A unique, Black-owned, independent, multiracial, underground nightclub & live music venue, 2023 marks WHQ's 30th anniversary, making it one of the longest running Clubs on the planet. It hosts an astoundingly diverse array of musical events, with local, national & international DJs, bands, promoters & artists from all communities performing here.
WHQ's strong multiracial ethos has been embedded into the switched-on youth of the city over decades, creating a lasting, credible & cosmopolitan alternative to Newcastle's infamous mainstream nightlife scene. Both the Club & it's building, Curtis Mayfield House, represent as positive role models of Black owned business. WHQ is a consistent exemplar of the power of great music, in influencing & bringing young people together for a positive, racially harmonic future.
