Artist Ngadi Smart uses animation and drawing to illustrate the unity of Sierra Leone

The backdrop of history

Between 1991 and 2002, Sierra Leone experience a violent and tragic civil war. Ngadi's film celebrates the peace and unity of the once divided country by employing the colors of the country's flag. 

The colours of Sierra Leone are a tricolour made of green, white and blue. Green and blue really are prevalent there in terms of nature. The green alludes to the country's natural resources – specifically agriculture and its mountains. The blue evokes the "natural harbor" of Free

As Ngadi states, ''The very essence of us as Sierra Leoneans is our perseverance and strength to continue. I focused on creating a piece that communicates unity between these three colours, and therefore speaks of a country that is led by hope and peace.''
